Storm on the Island

We are the lucky ones on Protection Island! We stayed out of power for 5 full days while some areas of Vancouver Island and of the smaller islands on Georgia Straight, like Salt Spring, had to wait more for the electricity to come back. Power came back here in the afternoon of the 25th, just on time to prepare Christmas dinner. This was an interesting experience!

I was on the road when the wind blew tree branches all around, I saw unusually strong waves around our peaceful Island. There were whole trees down...... Here are a few photos to give a brief feel of the event.

No ferries to the mainland, no ferry from Protection to Nanaimo!

Waves crashing high and strong

After I took this photo that land was covered with sea water.

These boats were strongly attached so they stayed at the dock. Safer than the 4 or 5 boats which landed on Newcastle.

This is usually straight!

The dock was dancing quite a bit

With the high tide there was no way to sail there except for Gabriola ferry.....

Over and strong

One would almost think this is in Tofino!

I wish I could have captured the rainbow

Flag flying high

New carpeted roads

The chainsaws were out for next winter firewood

The Written Word

I cannot find the words to fully explain my appreciations for the very high quality of the creations there! Just look and enjoy.
