François Jiji : One more Angel on the Island

Voici une courte histoire qui renforce la perception plus que positive de

la vie sur l'île Protection.

Here's a short story. It shows why I believe Protection Island

is such a nice place to live.

Un bateau coule dans le détroit séparant l'île Newcastle de l'île Protection. Sur le pont il y a un kayak. Un plongeur dégage le kayak qui remonte à la surface. Cependant on ne peut le récupérer, il flotte à l'envers au dessus de l'épave entourée de flotteurs limitant l'écoulement d'une petite nappe de pétrole. Les autorités portuaires ne veulent pas que le pétrole quitte l'enclos.

One day a boat sank between Newcastle and Protection islands, not too far from Dinghy Dock Pub. On the bridge there was a kayak. A diver went down and untied the kayak which floated upside down in between the floaters stopping the fuel leaked from the boat to disperse.

Après plus de 2 semaines, à marée haute, en pleine nuit, on enlève l'épave! À cet instant le kayak glisse hors du champ de vision des travailleurs et disparaît dans l'ombre de la nuit poussé par les courants. La propriétaire de la petite embarcation tente alors de récupérer son bien mais en vain, on ne sait pas où il est rendu.

Then one night, 2 weeks after it sank, while the tide was favorable, the sunken boat is retrieved. But the kayak floats away and disappear in the dark . The kayak owner who has previously been blocked from getting her craft by the sunken boat, tries to find it, nobody knows where it is....

Elle apprend alors qu'un kayak a été retrouvé sur la berge de l'île Protection. Elle se rend donc sur l'île et parvient à obtenir le contact de la personne qui a récupéré le kayak. J'ai eu la chance de rencontrer Guylaine, la propriétaire, sur la route près de chez moi. Voilà l'occasion de préparer un petit Blog......

Soon after she learns that a kayak has been recovered by Protection Island. She goes there and walking around, asking many people she finally finds it. I met Guylaine at the time and we talked while waiting for the house owner to come back. So I thought this could be a nice little story for my Blog!

Le kayak est donc retrouvé en face de la résidence de Ross, tout propre et prêt à reprendre la mer. Ce gentil monsieur a retiré le bateau de l'eau, il l'a proprement lavé (gicleur à pression 3 ou 4 fois) et attendait que le/la propriétaire arrive pour reprendre son bien.

We were at Ross's place and there was her Kayak! Ross had done a thorough clean up after landing the small boat coated in oil. All is there, even the paddle!

C'est à ce moment que j'ai encore une fois réalisé que les gestes gratuits et d'entraide sur cette petite île étaient monnaie courante. Je considère alors qu'il est impératif d'affirmer que beaucoup d'anges habitent ici. Alors toutes mes félicitation à l'Ange Ross pour son aide!

Witnessing the reunion between Guylaine and her kayak and dear Ross I knew this was another example of the great helping spirit I noticed on Protection. For me Ross is an Angel ready to help and make people happy! Thanks to him and the many alike here.
